To get the best from your fish and your pond, it is important to know what to feed and when. Here is a quick guide to the most common types of food:
Staple foods - formulated as a general diet for feeding to the majority of pond fish, good quality staple foods, such as TetraPond Floating Food Sticks, make an ideal daily diet.
Variety foods - mixed foods, such as TetraPond Variety Sticks, offer fish a more varied daily diet. They are ideal for ponds containing lots of different types of fish, and can be fed in place of a staple food.
Special foods - foods that are specially formulated will provide a superior diet for certain types of fish. For example, if the majority of the fish you keep are goldfish, shubunkins or comets, then TetraPond will keep them in top health and condition.
Koi foods - foods developed specifically for koi, with the correct balance of nutrients and additional colour-enhancing ingredients to promote their natural colours. Good quality koi foods, such as TetraPond Floating Koi Sticks, can be fed exclusively in koi-only ponds, or as part of a diet for mixed ponds.
Colour-enhancing foods - foods containing additional colour-enhancing ingredients are very useful for feeding over short periods to develop the natural colours of your fish. For example, TetraPond Colour Sticks can be fed at the start of spring, to strengthen colours after the winter. It is also ideal for feeding to new fish, to quickly develop their full natural colouration.
Cold weather foods - during the colder months pond fish benefit from being fed a diet rich in highly digestible wheatgerm. Foods such as TetraPond Wheatgerm Sticks keep fish in top condition through the winter, ensuring they are healthier and stronger for the spring. These diets should be fed once the temperature is below 10?C, as and when fish are active.
